Web Ordering: Internet Settings For Your PC
OCTOBER 2009

While we are encouraging all Buying Clubs to become associated with new Web Ordering System, we want you to be aware of some preventative measures to assure you get the best experience out of the new ordering system.

First, be aware that our site has security settings which are communicated through pop-up settings.  If you are ever having trouble viewing a pricelist, an invoice, or at even at times logging into the website, please be sure to check and see if a pop-up blocker is preventing you access.  Pop-up blockers are security settings on your computer to inform you that you are opening another window to view the link you selected.  You can disable pop-up blocker settings for web sites, including our site at www.unfi.com.  To do so go to the top menu bar and select Tools > Pop-Up Blocker > Pop-Up Blocker Settings. A window will open up with an exceptions list of websites to allow pop-ups.  Add to the list these two web sites: www.unfi.com and east.unfi.com.  Having these sites on that list will allow you to maneuver freely on the UNFI Web Ordering site without hesitation from pop-up blocker notifications.

There is also another setting on personal computers called Cookies or Caches.  Cookies are a fancy word for memory identification.  When you visit a website, your personal computer stores information from that site onto your hard drive.  By doing so, it allows the computer to process things faster when you re-visit that particular website.  Cookies are not a bad thing, they are quite useful actually, but they can create minor complications for certain PC users ordering on our website.  Some computer’s cookies are very sensitive and can often not ‘update’ a page that has changed - for example: you add an item to your basket but you don’t see the item in your basket.  The cookies on your computer are still identifying the site with the old images/settings.  This is very easy to fix so the page will display information accurately. Go to the menu bar at the top of the page and select Tools > Internet Options > a window will open and a link will be displayed called Delete Cookies > select Delete Cookies and follow the steps.  By doing these steps you are resetting the cookies to identify new changes to the page.  Please be advised that each personal computer’s cookies can function differently and not all computers have to worry about this.  However, we want our clubs to be well aware of this setting on each personal computer.  To help you understand more about cookie settings please read the short story below.

“Nikki was adding an item to her basket.  A message appeared saying that the item was added successfully.  When Nikki went to her View Basket link, the item she just added did not appear in the list of items.  So Nikki tried to add the item again and got the same message again stating that the item was added successfully.  Nikki went back to her basket and again the item was not there.  She tried adding the item two more times but it never showed up in her basket (?)”.  *The item that Nikki added 4 times to her basket is actually in her basket; however the cookies are preventing her from viewing an accurate web page.  Her cookies are not updating like they should be.  To fix this, Nikki just needs to follow the instructions above.  After she deletes the cookies, she will then see that the item she tried adding 4 times did actually register in her basket.  She will then want to delete the unnecessary quantity.  This can be a common problem for items becoming duplicated on your personal order.  Please be sure to thoroughly check your basket and make sure the quantity and items are correct before the coordinator commits the order.

The coordinator can also experience similar scenarios when they are trying to log off the Coordinator account and into a Member account.  Sometimes the cookies will not register correctly and properly change you to the correct account you are trying to access.  This too will require deleting cookies for the web page to properly display the account you want to be in.

We hope this has answered many of your questions or concerns. If you have any questions please contact bcservices@unfi.com and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank You!
