September 2005
Dear Customers,
We have all been
overwhelmed by the devastation and suffering
resulting from Hurricane Katrina. Although the
water is going down, the suffering continues.
Thousands of families are refugees as a result of
the storm and are now far from home, without
resources, and dependent on aid from organizations
like the American Red Cross.
As part of our effort
to aid the survivors, United Natural Foods will
match donations made to the American Red Cross by
buying clubs and individual buying club members up
to a total of $20,000. UNFI delivers to over 3000
buying clubs. If every buying club made a donation
of $10, together we would donate over $50,000!
People affected by the storm will
need assistance for many months to come, and the
American Red Cross is experienced and effective in
providing this assistance. In addition to helping
with basics such as food and shelter, the Red Cross
assists with reuniting families, provides health and
preventative care and disaster mental health
services. The Red Cross is expanding its efforts to
provide financial assistance to upwards of
three quarters of a million survivors.
Assistance is provided in a variety of ways,
including client assistance cards, vouchers, checks
and cash.
To participate in this
donation, make checks payable to “American Red
Cross” and, in the note section, write: “Hurricane
Katrina Disaster Relief Distribution”. Mail checks
by October 15, 2005 to:
