UNFI to expand
product numbers
in January 2010

The Product Number
Expansion will go
into effect January
9, 2010.
United Natural
Foods, Inc. has
operated for many
years with a 6 digit
Item Number, which
is made up of a 5
digit number plus a
check digit. Recent
growth of the
business has created
the likelihood that
our item numbers
will soon exceed
99,999, so we are
changing our item
number to 7 digits
(6 plus a check
digit). The purpose
of this
communication is to
provide our
customers with
information they
need to determine
whether or not they
are affected by this
change.
Areas affected by
the change:
Catalogs –
UNFI Catalogs will
begin to display a
seven digit item
number for all items
in early 2010. For
items with a 6 digit
number, that number
will be displayed
with a leading zero
(e.g. 029553-6).
Website – The
UNFI website will
begin to display 7
digit item numbers
also early next
year. No special
action is needed on
the part of
customers who use
the website.
FoodLink –
FoodLink pricelists
will begin to
display 7 digit item
numbers early next
year. No special
action is needed on
the part of
customers who use
FoodLink.
Invoices –
Invoices will begin
to display 7 digit
item numbers with
leading zeros early
next year.
